Farewell from The PDX Beat!

It is with mixed emotions that I announce the end of The PDX Beat podcast after a nearly two-year run.  I’ve thoroughly enjoyed my time with you all, and appreciate the friendships with which I’ve been rewarded from meeting my many guests.  But other priorities have surfaced, which requires a good chunk of my time, and there’s only so much of me to spread around. 😉

However, I’m a believer in never saying never, so I may return one day.  For now, if you’re looking for another Portland-centric podcast with which to feast your ears, check out Sean Barron’s, The Portland Cool Podcast, whose episodes can be found on his website and on iTunes.

Also, the past episodes will live on in SoundCloud, iTunes, and Stitcher Radio, so please do give them a re-listen if you were so inclined.

Lasty, from all of us at The PDX Beat, thanks for having tuned in.

#43 – Coco Donuts

Coco Donuts is among a handful of key players in Portland’s donut industry.  Serving a traditional lineup at three different locations– Downtown on 6th; Uptown on SW 17th; and on the East Side along NE Broadway– their treats are pure nostalgia with every bite.  Manager, Marissa Mejia, and Head Baker, Ainsley Jeffers, joined me in this episode to talk shop.  Give it a listen!

#42 – The Junebugs

I had the pleasure of chatting with Moses Barrett of The Junebugs about his band’s genre-bending sound that’s slowly becoming a staple in the Portland live music scene.

The Portland Rose Festival

There is only a handful of things more Portland as F**k (#PAF) than the Portland Rose Festival, which officially kicks off the summer season in the City of Roses.

With its family-friendly parades, Fleet Week, Dragon Boat Races, and the hard-to-ignore Fun Center– I mean, Cityfair–on Tom McCall Waterfront Park, it’s no wonder that the Portland Rose Festival has been part of Portland culture for over 100 years.

Tonight’s Starlight Parade at 8:30 pm marks the beginning of this annual two-week celebration.  Yours truly may actually watch it this year. 🙂

#40 – The Portland Mercado

Jamie Melton from The Portland Mercado talked to me about Portland’s very first Latino public market, which features food carts, cafes, a bar, and shopping.
